Refocus
Last year, I was in New Orleans for a business trip. I carried my camera along the alleyways of the historic French Quarters, which was filled with an array of beautiful signage and uplifting jazz music. On the edge of the festive area, I snapped a picture of this man and his camera. Coincidentally, he was taking a picture of his wife, who was on the same side of the street as I was.
His wife was modeling in front of a luxurious hotel as the background. She noticed that I took a shot of his husband and said in a friendly manner, “You’re taking a shot of me, and he’s taking a shot of you!” She started giggling. I smiled at her and walked across the street to show him the picture I took. He was surprised that he was standing in such a photogenic scene.
This vivid recollection has occupied my mind recently. When we are so focused on the tasks around us, we sometimes forget where we stand. Our perspectives are outwardly driven and we start to overly depend on external sources to define ourselves. It’s good to bring ourselves to the present to find our inner peace and happiness.
I feel blessed to be surrounded by amazing people and a great environment.
